It’s no secret that our New Year’s resolutions start to shy out on us around February, since January was trial month right? Well, now we’re going to talk about Top 5 Training Motivation Tips. So, time to put those withering winter blues behind us, put down the cream pie and climb out from under that duvet, brace yourself we’re going to exit hibernation mode…
Whether you’re a gym bunny, wellness warrior or somebody who has never even heard of the term ‘Hump Day’, getting back into a healthy fitness regime isn’t as easy as watching Chuck Bass pout all day long on Netflix! I strongly believe that personal motivation is the dynamic bridge to building your fitness and reaching your goals. With a fairly robust self-motivation you’re already over halfway to crossing that finishing line.
Motivation shouldn’t only come from artificial images uploaded on social media. Sure it helps -to look at the nicely toned, sculpted abs of someone like Kayla Istine -undeniably making anyone want to think twice before reaching for the biscuit tin! HOWEVER, ultimately it does take your own decision and self-discipline to be able to swap the fluffy slippers for the Nikes!
1. Spread the word
Friends, family, your BFF, the milkman even your dog!
Letting people know about your desirable goals help to make your lifestyle changes become a reality. It may be daunting at first and unfortunately you might have to accept discouragement from some, but the more acknowledgment people have of your decisions then the bigger your support circle will be. Surrounding yourself by those who want to see you succeed and become the very best version of yourself, both inside and out, is a solid first step to self-motivation!
2. Unleash your inner geek!
Research the top health and fitness books that are trending at the moment and nose dive into all about their different recipes, nutrition, exercises, the human body, etc. There’s a whole other world out there where foreign words such as Quinoa (pronounced keen-waah) and Chia (chee-ah) will soon be rolling off your tongue. Reading and utilizing more information about health and fitness is like feeding your brain on how to do things that are best suitable for you. By increasing your learning on all things health, it allows you to slowly and sensibly approach and define your new regime. Let’s be honest here, there’s no ‘quick fix’ to getting fit, so get reading, learn the facts, reinvigorate your brain on the right way to commit to being healthy. 3. Unleash your inner style
Whether it’s a new sports bra, swanky leggings or those trainers you’ve wanted for ages…often a motivating key to a happy, healthy physique is some new sports clothing! Check out active wear collections from Lorna Jane, H&M, Sweaty Betty and Miss Guided for extra sporting inspiration!
4. Dancing queen… (or king)
That typical ‘should I, shan’t I’ mind debate before having a workout can be a tricky one! It’s amazing to think how your consciousness can dictate your mindset in terms of exercise, for better or worse.
A solution that I personally love to really get my rear into gear is to plug in my headphones, listen to some music and start dancing around the house. Sounds silly but it doesn’t matter where you are because once your body starts moving, your heart rate quickens and your blood gets busy pumping carrying ‘happy’ hormones such as dopamine and endorphins. These are released through the body’s movement and really help to change your mind, positively preparing you to break into a sweet sweat. Nothing like a blast of Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” to help shake my way on down to the gym!
Everybody likes to end their day knowing that they have achieved something. No matter how big or small, setting goals is crucial to self-motivation. In this game, it’s only you against you!
Create a checklist, journal, timetable or even a diary to write down exactly what you want to achieve and how you are going to go about doing it. Remember, failing to plan is planning to fail!
Keep notes on your progress, list the times when you lacked motivation and other times when you felt like a complete fitness superstar! There will be a pattern and once you are aware of it you can work with yourself and continue developing. So grab a pen and paper, call up a friend, make a date with the gym (not with Jim) and start planning your health and fitness goals now!
