How to Build a Better Butt

To the delight of well-endowed women everywhere, it’s finally fashionable to have a strong, round butt and wider hips. While not every woman has the physique to build a J-Lo type backside, we can all do a bit more to tone and strengthen our derrière. Importantly enough, a strong rear end ties in closely with our postural health, so it’s good for posture and our backs!

While it may be fashionable, it’s important to mention that looks shouldn’t be the chief reason you get to work on your rear. That said, let’s get into How to Build a Better Butt!

All your muscles are there to be worked, and it just so happens that our legs and glutes are our strongest muscles. In turn, this helps with balance and posture, and will help take pressure off your lower back and knees. These two areas are prone to injury, especially as we age.

The gluteus maximus, the largest muscle in the butt, is also among the biggest in the body overall. Strong glutes mean maximum calorie burn throughout the day, not just when you work out. It’s also what drives the shape of your rear area. Many common fitness activities can target the butt, including yoga, and most sports including hiking, walking, running, climbing, and anything involving explosive actions like CrossFit.

If you’re not that fussed about your looks, (yes, there are more important things in life!) but want to make sure you’re as fit and strong as possible, then all you may need to do is to take up walking or running to maximise the potential of your glute muscles. This will be enough to build lean, strong and functional muscles. However, if you’re looking for something a little extra then you will need to head to the gym (or use equipment in your home) for a glute-focused workout to get the absolute maximum aesthetics you’re craving. It’s certainly better than simply chilling out watching binge-Netflixing!

The Elusive Brazilian Beach Butt

Brazilian women seem to have a reputation as being the most toned and tanned women in the world. This isn’t objectively true of course, but they’re just ‘known’ for it. It’s perhaps not that surprising that they have come to represent the ideal ‘beach butt’ for women, either. If you’re keen to embrace the quest of the characteristics of a Brazilian butt, try this. These 10 exercises are specifically designed to help you shape your glute muscles and also help you look great in a bikini.

However, it’s important to remember that every body is different, and we all build muscle slightly differently too. While it’s worth it for everyone to work out their glute muscles, you may not achieve the exact visual results you might have seen on a Brazilian beach. What you will achieve is a lean, strong, and firm booty that will help you gain self-confidence, along with a healthier posture and lifestyle – if you make these exercises a habit.

We’re not sure if the ‘bubble butt’ trend will last (not that it matters terribly!) but time spent strengthening your muscles in the gym is never wasted. Having a functional and firm butt and legs will help you be more confident and happier about yourself as well as more mobile throughout your life. It can also boost your motivation and encourage you to engage with your own goal process. You’ll have better balance and feel better as you age, so why not try to build your butt muscles today?
