5 Ways to Unwind After Work

When your workday is done, what do you do to unwind and let go of the stress from the day? Relaxing at the end of the day can be helpful, especially if you have a high-stress job. Here are 5 Ways to Unwind After Work!

1. Have an Evening Tea Routine

Evening teas can make for the perfect routine at the end of a long day. The comfort of sipping on a delicious tea and the soothing effects of various tea blends can be one of the most relaxing things you can do at the end of a long day. Especially when you combine it with a hobby like journaling, writing, painting, or reading a book.

2. Get Out in Nature

While you can’t do this during the seasons when the days are shorter, when the sun stays out late, a pleasant walk-in nature can help you clear your mind and reset so that you can go into your relaxing evening feeling less stressed or caught up thinking about work. Whether this looks like a hike on a local trail or a walk near your neighborhood forest, spending time in nature can provide you with a deeply calming effect.

3. Incorporate an Evening Exercise Routine

An evening exercise routine is one of the best ways to release stress from the day. Moving and sweating may not feel so great at the moment, but when you’re finished with your online workout, you’re going to be feeling a lot better after getting rid of tension.

Whether you love your spin class or prefer bodyweight training classes, do the type of exercise routine that will help you reset so that you can have a lovely relaxing evening. However, avoid working out too close to bedtime as you may find yourself a bit too restless to sleep.

4. Spend Time with a Close Loved One

Spending time with people we love can have a relaxing effect, especially if there’s tension at work. If you have a highly stressful job, getting home and leaving it at the door to spend time with the people you love can be really good for you.

Whether you call friends to have dinner out or plan a date night with your spouse, the right people can help your work worries melt away. Even if you have a Zoom call with loved ones, that connection can help you forget your work stress too.

5. Take a Bath

It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but a warm bath with Epsom salts or essential oils can feel amazing. This is especially true after a cold and stressful day during the winter season.

Drink a glass of red herbal tea, listen to music, put on a meditation app, or simply relax with Oud incense and candles as you wash off the stress of the day. It may be a cliché idea, but there’s something to be said about hot baths. If you happen to have pain in your joints every once in a while, it can also be a gentle way to release tension in your body.

From a cup of tea to an evening with loved ones, there are a lot of ways that you can enjoy self-care and unwind at the end of the day. With so many daily responsibilities, when you come home after work, try your best to take some time to unwind so you can have some “me time” or time for yourself.

Things like meditating, or getting out in nature, also work to help you release stress – aim to make these a part of your daily and weekly routine. Finding time to relax is vital for your mental, emotional, and physical health. What’s the best way to relax and unwind after work in your opinion?
