Your thoughts on Keep Fit Kingdom’s Mission: B2100 by 2100:

Everyone wants to live a longer, healthier and happier life and I believe the way to do that is through an education in self awareness, environmental awareness, and having a passion for adventure. A mission of helping a billion people to reach 100 years healthy and happy gives us an opportunity to look at health and fitness on a global level. We all have our own individual journey towards optimum heath, fitness and happiness – we have varied diets, personalised exercise programs, and our own organically chosen team of like-minded passionate people that surround us; sharing, inspiring and motivating us along the way. Keeping the journey new innovative and exciting. Having access to well-trained highly motivated professionals and a coach for guidance and support is also vital in order to keep abreast of and benefit from the rapidly evolving science of sports nutrition, physiology and psychology. We are all operating in one ecosystem shared with plants, animals, water, earth, sky, people and together we can reach at least 100 years of age happily and healthily.

Michael’s story…

My story begins on top of a cliff in the Caribbean. It is a waterfall. As I sit here writing this, I can hear the water thundering below me, drowning out all other sound. Everything around is green. The sunlight catches the spray from the waterfall and displays the colours of the rainbow – bright and beautiful, visible for fleeting moments. I can smell the water and the mud from the path leading through the forest up the side of the waterfall. As I climb, my legs feel like jelly, my balance slightly off kilter, my breath burning in my lungs. The path is well trodden, the ones who have jumped 60ft down into a small muddy brown pool clearly evident before me. I am a strong, physical, fierce beast of a man – but in the chest of this beast there is fear.

Diving into your fears

I know and understand fear very well; predating this story I taught hundreds of people to scuba dive. For all of their desire to explore the unknown, the idea of giving up control, the fear of physical harm, the fear of failure, the fear of success, the fear of embarrassment threatens them.

The fear can overwhelm and cripple them and the desire to retreat, to makes excuses, to put it off, becomes strong – “I can’t do this – this is not for me – I am too old, too out of shape, too weak, too scared…I never was a water person anyway…thanks for trying though” they say with a depreciating smile. I smile back with understanding and acknowledgement. “You came to me”, I say. When you commit – you book the dive or climb the cliff side with the roaring waterfall like a cape on your shoulder, a cape of dread and power, a living thing, a life-giving thing…you realise that fear is part of life – if you don’t take the leap, or the plunge, or the job, accept the beginning or end of a relationship – how will you ever connect to life. How will you ever live?

I am a personal empowerment life coach focussed on achievement, empowerment and fulfilment.

Witnessing my students going through the transformation from fear to joy, from doubt to success, from tension to relief, from feeling trapped to the freedom that comes from a new perspective has driven me through the quagmire of fear, doubt and anxiety to embrace life and adventure.

Background & influences

I moved from the Caribbean to the UK in 2010 and retrained from a recreational dive instructor to an industrial commercial diver. Ship salvage, underwater maintenance, in-shore/off-shore operations. I went through a period of feeling disconnected and adrift from the deeply emotional human connection that I experienced whilst engaging in dive instruction. Through my recent discovery of the concepts of becoming a life coach, I have reconnected and developed relationships that support individuals in discovering what holds them back from living the life that they desire but they may not think they can achieve.

I live with my wife and two sons in Teddington, Middlesex. I am passionate about martial arts, breath-hold diving, and health and fitness. I see physical exercise as a way to connect my mind, body and spirit and to keep in touch with my truth. My truth is to be seen and heard, to connect with the world through travel – whether it be to other countries, the supermarket, the gym or to my martial arts clubs, through taking a drive to the coast and getting lost – everything is a journey or an adventure if we wish to see it so – and I see it so. I love to read and watch films, my genre of choice is usually action/adventure such as The Big Blue, Man on Fire, American Sniper, and Captain America. What attracts me to these films is the sense of justice, fairness, love and dedication to a bigger cause than just oneself.

I have read many amazing novels since my primary school days, but a few books stay with me as my favourites, books that speak to my sense of adventure and my desire to learn all that I can during my short time in this world.

Some impressionable titles include Alistair Maclean Where Eagles Dare, Sebastian Faulks Human Traces, Iris Murdoch The Sea, The Sea. Books that answer questions and create more questions, that explore other people’s weird and wonderful ways to create and develop their world towards peace, health, wealth and self-discovery include Taming Your Gremlin by Rick Carson, Bounce by Matthew Syed, and Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss.
