There is no doubt about it, a SIBO (Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) diet is a must regardless of how bad or mild your symptoms are. Furthermore, a healthy diet is a good chance to reconnect with your body, as you get to learn more about it and its needs.

SIBO happens when there is an unusual increase in the overall numbers of bacteria in the small intestine — especially types of bacteria not commonly meant to be living in that part of the digestive tract.

5 Tasty SIBO Recipes

1. Coconut Raspberry Bowl

Ideal for breakfast, this recipe only needs a few ingredients:

  • ½ cup of coconut yogurt
  • ¼ cup blueberries
  • ¼ cup raspberries
  • 10 almonds
  • 1 cup of granola

Preparing this delicious breakfast only takes a matter of minutes!

  • Put half the blueberries and raspberries in a cup or a bowl. Mash them, but they don’t turn them into a paste.
  • Add the yogurt while stirring to make sure all ingredients blend in properly.
  • Top with all the other ingredients and enjoy straight away.

2. SIBO Granola Breakfast

This is another great choice for breakfast.

  • 1 cup gluten free oats
  • 1 spoon chia seeds
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 spoon vanilla extract
  • 2 spoons hemp seeds
  • 1 spoon flax seeds
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 sliced banana
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 2 spoons almond butter
  • 1 spoon flaked coconut

Preparing this recipe requires overnight refrigeration.

  • Mix the first seven ingredients, cover the mix and refrigerate for one night.
  • Top with the other ingredients just before serving and voila!

3. Tomato Meatball Soup

This delicious soup takes less than an hour to prepare.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 spoon of salt
  • ½ spoon each dried basil, oregano and thyme
  • ½ spoon pepper
  • 3 cups beef stock
  • 3 cups tomato paste
  • 2 cubed potatoes
  • 14 ounces canned diced tomatoes
  • Green parts from 6 scallions
  • 1 diced red pepper

Prepare this soup in two stages:

  • Add the beef, herbs, egg, salt and pepper in a bowl and mix, then roll into meatballs.
  • The second step is preparing the soup pot. Add the tomatoes, paste, scallions, red pepper, potatoes and stock, bring to a boil and simmer for around 10 minutes.
  • Meatballs go in one at a time while stirring. Keep cooking for another 15 minutes.

4. Vanilla Ice Cream

Got a sweet tooth? This dessert is ideal for hot summer days.

  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 spoons of honey

Preparing ice cream has never been easier. You don’t need more than five minutes for this!

  • Put the two types of milk in a large bowl. Cut the bean in half, get the seeds out and add them on top. You can replace the bean with vanilla extract.
  • Add the honey on top and mix until you get an even consistency.
  • Pour into ice cream shapes or moulds and freeze or, if you have an ice cream machine, this mix makes the ideal mixture for it.

5. Homemade Basil Pesto

Pesto is ideal for all sorts of dishes, including sandwiches. Here’s how to make your own:

  • 2 cups basil leaves
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup garlic olive oil
  • 1/3 cup pine nuts
  • 1 spoon of pepper
  • Salt

The preparation and cooking takes just five minutes.

  • Mix the cheese, pepper, pine nuts and leaves in a food processor.
  • Pour in a bit of olive oil.
  • Mix until you have an even consistency.
  • Mix longer for smoother results.
  • Use salt to taste.
