BARBELLS AND BODYWEIGHT – COMPETITIONS TO INSPIRE A NATION TO FITNESS

Amateur competitions; Strongman, BodyPower Games, Battle of the Bars and MMA to feature at BodyPower 2016. BodyPower 2016, the UK’s largest fitness and power sports show, is aiming to inspire a new generation of strength athletes with a number of exciting competitions, jam packed features and special events. Some of the UK’s top athletes will be competing across a number popular disciplines including MMA, Strongman, functional fitness and calisthenics.
Strongman is the ultimate test of strength and endurance, with athletes challenged to pick up, carry, drag and move a range of heavy objects. For pure athleticism very few competitions and disciplines come close to the challenges strongmen and strongwomen face. Returning to the NEC and fronted by Strongman legend Terry Hollands, Britain’s largest amateur Strongman competition will entertain and inspire visitors.
The likes of Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey have put MMA on the map with their UFC endeavours, exciting fans and inspiring a new generation of MMA competitors and enthusiasts. Supporting the growing enthusiasm for the sport in the UK, BodyPower will not only be hosting the UKs biggest amateur martial arts competition in the Combat Zone, but has also announced a partnership with BAMMA, the UKs largest MMA promotion. The partnership will see BodyPower visitors receive discounted prices on tickets for BAMMA 25: Champion vs Champion taking place at the Barclaycard Arena on Saturday 14th of May.
The rise of the term ‘functional fitness’ rode tandem with the rise in popularity of Crossfit™. Box gyms are continuing to pop up all over the country and fitness enthusiasts and newbies alike are taking part in high intensity, functional fitness sessions or WOD’s. Seeking to encourage more to take part in fitness and training, BodyPower is launching the BodyPower Games. Competitors from around the country will be able to take part in the Games, taking on a range of challenges designed to push competitors to the limits of their strength and endurance.
Battle of the Bars will show visitors that strength isn’t just built in the gym. Calisthenics is having a resurgence in the world of health and fitness, with many athletes turning to its principles to improve performance and build strength. At BodyPower, visitors will be able to take part in demonstrations and workshops, learning how to move and use their own bodyweight. This new feature will also see some of the best calisthenics athletes from around the world go head to head fronted by Kenneth Gallarzo of Progressive Calisthenics.
We really want people to come away from BodyPower with an enthusiasm for training that they might not have had before” commented BodyPower CEO Nick Orton. “You can spend a day here and come away with knowledge and even a desire to try something new like MMA or Crossfit. That’s what the show is all about, giving people more options to pursue a fitter, more active lifestyle “.
