Top 5 Health Benefits of Coconut Oil Pulling!

Now before you call me crazy for suggesting you swish oil around your mouth for 20 minutes a day, just hear me out on about how it could improve your everyday health and wellbeing. Read on for a little more info on what it actually involves followed by our Top 5 Health Benefits of Coconut Oil Pulling!

So just what is oil-pulling exactly, and how do you do it?
Oil-pulling is an ancient dental technique that has been used for hundreds of years to maintain a clean and healthy smile, but this is not the only advantage. Pulling with coconut oil is sworn by many to prevent everyday ill-health from fighting a sore throat to clearing acne. This practice involves taking a spoonful of coconut-oil and swishing it around your mouth, just like mouthwash, for 20 minutes on an empty stomach.

1. Cleaner mouth
Swishing with the oil is said to leave your mouth much cleaner than brushing alone. This is because the oil is very good at moving through your mouth and getting into those small spaces that you can’t reach between your teeth , removing small food matter. It is also said to collect toxins and bacteria. The residue is said to be so toxic that you mustn’t swallow it once finished swishing; it should ideally be spat into a toilet, basin will do though.

2. Whiter teeth
Many people who have tried this method have said that it both whitened and smoothed their teeth, having tried it myself I can vouch for this result.

3. Increases energy levels
Because this practice helps to detoxify our bodies from all of the bacteria we ingest on a daily basis, it leaves less work for our intestines to do, meaning we have more energy to carry out daily activities!

4. Clearer skin
Due to its toxin removing abilities and natural antibacterial properties, oil-pulling has been said to help clear acne.

5. Prevents sore throats
As someone who used to suffer from regular bouts of sore throat, I can honestly say that since I started oil-pulling I haven’t had a sore throat even once! Once again this is due to the oil’s antibacterial and toxin-removing properties, preventing bacteria such as the streptococcus group of bacteria (responsible for causing sore throats) from accumulating within the mouth.

For optimal benefits it is recommended you do coconut oil pulling every morning, but you will still see results using this technique every other day or even less frequently, ie. a few times a week. Why not give it a try, you may well be pleasantly surprised at the results you get and perhaps save yourself the time, energy and hassle spent on dental appointments!
