Reiki: A Pathway to Health & Wellness — 5 Key Insights

Reiki is a technique that focuses on energy to help the individual heal, relax and reduce stress. It’s a spiritual, vibrational technique that aims to bring balance to the human body. You can get a healing treatment from a professional, or you can practice Reiki regularly to see the effects on yourself, for yourself. In the early 1920’s, Mikao Usui (from Japan) is known to have created Reiki as it practised today. Usui was an ardent spiritual aspirant and led a simple life with his wife and two children. The intensity of his practices lead to the creation of Reiki. Curious? Find out more in Reiki: A Pathway to Health & Wellness — 5 Key Insights!

1. How does Reiki Work?

Reiki releases tension from the human body, which leads to a unique balance in mind, body and spirit. It helps the body’s own healing mechanism to function more effectively. It works based on the seven subtle energy centres (chakras) of the astral body. You cannot see them, but you can become intimately familiar with them through the instrument of your own mind and awareness of what your endocrine system is doing.

The ‘patient’ can feel the unblocked energy flowing within them, and the feeling varies from person to person. Reiki practitioners have observed that there is a physical sensation where one feels energy waves literally coursing through the inner being. The individual feels very relaxed. Reiki is a fantastic gift that’s available to every human being. The best part is that it’s all light, pure and there are no side effects!

2. What is Energy?

Energy is our life force. To optimise our daily living, we should maximise our energy levels. This universal life energy is called prana in India, Ki in Japanese and Qi or Chi in Chinese, To understand energy and how it works, you must understand how energy moves through your body. Your energy always wants to move from a lower state of being to a higher state of being.

3. Health Benefits of Reiki

  • Deep relaxation
  • Improved overall wellness
  • Reduced stress levels
  • Lowered anxiety
  • Relief from physical pain
  • Deeper spiritual connection

4. More than Just Healing

Reiki opens the subtle body, which makes us feel balanced, in harmony and in love with ourselves. Throughout our lifetime, we knowingly and unknowingly create blockages in our chakras. The surface of your mind is just the tip of the iceberg, for true psychological wellbeing we have to go deeper and address our underlying energy system. It reflects how we live, breathe, have our being and express ourselves.

The best way to understand your spiritual development with Reiki is to listen to what your intuition and body says. The language of intuition heard in silence can reveal vast energies moving through our body.

5. A Typical Reiki Session

The patient is asked by the professional Reiki therapist if they would be allowed to touch the person or not. The patient discusses a particular area to focus on. The process is usually very comfortable and soothing for the individual. The client lies down and is covered, fully clothed under a blanket, some calming music is usually played during a reiki healing session whilst the individual falls into deeper states of relaxation and corresponding reduced anxiety.

Reiki isn’t just about “getting better”, it is all about letting go of everything that isn’t you, all of the beliefs, expectations and becoming who you are meant to be. The Reiki practitioner becomes the vehicle to channelise expansive, pure, and universal energy to reconnect and establish a more harmonised optimal energy flow to the patient. This healing modality holds keys for overall wellbeing in mind, body, and soul.
