Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you might be asking, why is there a relationship article on a health, fitness, nutrition and yoga site? Good question, and here’s your answer: emotional wellness. We spend a lot of time getting our bodies fit and striving to maintain that, but can we apply the same training rules to our dating and relationship life? Hardly. Little wonder then, how we don’t have the best workouts when we feel unhappy inside with the state of our personal relationships. We get a lot of emails about this, so we thought we’d give it a little attention in Love & Relationship Problems? Insights Revealed!
The Big Modern SpeakUneasy…
You may have noticed a growing trend toward yoga, veganism, stress and anxiety management etc. Due to the explosive growth of the internet, starting an online business for example, rather than grafting a regular nine-to-five has become a real possibility for the proactive among us.
With this more level playing field and more information and opportunities than ever before literally at our fingertips, you’d think everyone would be having happier relationship lives as well, right? Well, unfortunately not.
Modern life, instead of being simple, has in many ways become more complicated with dating apps like Tinder, Bumble and endless free dating meet up socials. Social media expectations seen on Instagram and Facebook, can sometimes cause more stress, confusion and worry leaving people emotionally exhausted and drained to say nothing of the number of increasing Uber rides – you know what I’m talking about!
Here are a few questions from recent coaching calls:
A woman in her late twenties asks:
“I went on a great date recently but why doesn’t he answer my calls or reply to my texts?”
Turns out the girl had several ‘failed’ relationship experiences in the past and is harbouring the same expectations with this recent (and any new) date. Result, frustration, wasted energy, and no replies.
An attractive city consultant in her early thirties laments:
“Why is my dating life virtually non existent, when my friends are always going on dates?”
In the course of the session, it turns out she’s an aspiring politician that needs to be in control of every little detail of her life including the people in it. Shades of OCD.
A London-born university-educated woman in her mid-thirties says:
“Time is ticking, and I just want to get married, settle down and have a family”, why am I only meeting douchebags?”
During the session, it turns out she’s had this tightly-knit dream since she was a kid. However, the guys she dates are all the same age as her (which usually means 6-8 years less emotionally mature than a female – Ding! Light bulb moment!) hence why she’s not finding solid ‘husband’ material with father-to-her-baby potential.
