Interview with Dr. Pender and Oxygen Therapy Experience!

Ever wondered what oxygen therapy was all about? Well, I was fortunate to be invited for a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy session in a private wellness clinic in the heart of London’s trendy Mayfair. Once I arrived, I was greeted by the friendly front of house team who made me feel very welcome and at home in their stylish surroundings. Read on for a little more about the experience and watch the video below for our exclusive interview with Dr. Pender about this growing area of therapy.

I did not have to wait long before I met with the Hyperbaric Oxygen expert Dr Pender and his assistant, Ryan, who guided me to the room and clearly explained the process of treatment which was very reassuring. I then completed a medical history questionnaire, gave my consent and  stepped into the submarine-type chamber.

The top half of the chamber was transparent, which enabled me to look out clearly while being spacious enough to move in. As the machine was switched on, I placed my respiration mask over my nose and mouth breathing normally, while cool, gentle air entered the tank.

Although my body temperature felt the same, my ears did start to pop, the same feeling you experience whilst being airborne on a plane. After a few minutes, that effect subsided and I relaxed completely, nearly drifting off to sleep. Whilst in the chamber, I was permitted to use my phone, listen to music and read which made the time fly pretty quickly so it was pleasant overall.

As the session ended, air seeped rapidly through small gaps of the machine as the door opened. Once, fully open, I stepped out of the chamber and back into normality. Afterwards, I felt light and slightly ‘spaced out’ but it certainly was an interesting and welcome experience which leaves me wondering about the prolonged potential benefit that might be realised with regular sessions. Tried oxygen therapy, how did it go? 1. HBOT..what a great concept. Years ago, my friends grandfather told me he had wounds on his legs that wouldn’t heal. Mind you it was in the late 70’s and only being 12 years old I was inquisitive about what he told us. Not sure of his complete medical conditions, he proceeded to tell us that he would put his oxygen mask (he used this oxygen when needed), over the wounds and in just a couple of weeks the sores were healed.

I worked in the laboratory in our local hospital, and would be on the medical floor during my shift. I never once saw nor heard of HBOT the entire duration of my employment. After listening to Dr, I thought why don’t they incorporate this treatment more than they do? It could help so many people who’re suffering. My husband is going through issues and can’t seem to get one to really help him. He suffers from PVD Peripheral Vascular Disease and it’s heartbreaking to see what he has to deal with.

We did go to The Oxford Clinic located in the States sadly his insurance will only cover one session which is unbelievable to me. Out of pocket expenses is sadly not a reality. I do have a question though someone might be able to answer for me. Can you offer an opinion on the inflatable oxygen bag that would cover his legs. We have been researching this other method, and would like to know if this is a due-able alternative and does it actually work? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I don’t know what else to do. Seeing him in distress is so sad. Please any help thank you in advance.

    Kindly,

    Janis
