Handy Cure – Portable Pain Relief Laser Device

Finding better ways to treat aches and pains is important to athletes and non-athletes alike. The Handy Cure is a unique device that treats your pains with four energy sources: cold (OSRAM technology) laser, infrared, visible red light and static magnetic fields. Read on as we review this multi-level pain management tool.

First of all, the informative leaflets inside the package educate us about the Handy Cure. It can be used to aid recovery for a myriad of conditions providing pain relief treatment based on the synergistic effect of its four energy sources backed up by third-party scientific research and clinical results which can be read on their site (see end for link). Arthritis, sciatica and migraines are a few examples. Details of successful case studies are given and testimonials from several doctors convinced me that this device is going to at least be worth a try.

The guidelines for treating problem areas are easy to follow. Treatment for each body part lasts up to 21 days. The Handy Cure has 3 settings (variable, 50Hz and 5Hz) and the laser penetrates the skin deeper on the higher settings. The lowest ‘variable’ setting is used initially for one week then increased accordingly. Pain is relieved, blood flow is improved and inflammation is reduced during and after each treatment.

After 28 years of training in powerlifting and bodybuilding and competing in grip strength competitions, my body has accumulated its fair share of aches and pains so I couldn’t wait to test this product on myself. I decided to focus on treating my aching left shoulder joint, tight hip flexors and mild pains near my right elbow.

Suitable for knee pains

Suitable for speeding healing of many types of injuries

Design: The Handy Cure weighs 300g and fits comfortably in your hand. It’s lightweight making it easy to hover the device above the area being treated. It’s portable and requires very little space for storage and the supplied travel case is useful for storing it too. Safety goggles are provided and are recommended for wearing when treating areas near the face.

Build: The device, although lightweight, is robust and made of a tough, sturdy plastic. Its surface is easy to clean and maintain. Its battery lasts approximately 18 hours before needing a recharge with the supplied power adaptor. The device has a lifespan of 25,000 hours which means that you will get many years’ use out of this product and it also comes with the manufacturer’s 2-year warranty as standard for your peace of mind.

Performance: I’ve got to admit that I was worried that the laser treatment was going to be painful. My mind was put at ease during the first treatment and there was absolutely no pain felt at all. Treating the desired area is incredibly easy and simply requires holding the device slightly above the target area while the laser does its job. Each treatment lasts a maximum of five minutes and the device emits a short, clear beeping tone when the session is complete.

The Handy Cure succeeded in alleviating pain 100% of the times that I used it. It was pleasing to move my left shoulder joint comfortably again after the device diminished the pains that restricted it. The booklet provided states that some problems may only need one treatment to ‘sort it out’. I found this to be true when I used it on my wife’s Achilles tendonitis, the pain disappeared and hasn’t returned since.

Looking at things from a sportsperson’s point of view, whether training with heavy weights, CrossFit athletic or other workouts, the Handy Cure is beneficial in treating most common injury problems. Pains, from rotator cuff injuries to back strains and knee injuries could be greatly reduced with regular use of the device.

Value: The price tag of £385 is a small price to pay for this appliance. It’s highly effective and its all-round durability more than justifies the cost.

Summary: The Handy Cure is a fantastic rehabilitation tool. It’s simple and easy to use and the short five-minute treatments mean that you’ve pretty much got a therapist on hand to quickly fit sessions into time gaps of even the most hectic of lifestyles. An essential purchase for your pain relief recovery toolbox!
