6 Top Places to Eat Clean when Eating Out!

If you are watching what you eat, whether you are on a diet or just simply eating clean, you might be reluctant to eat out. The fear of ‘cheating’ might be so severe that you’re willing to sit at home whilst your friends are out enjoying themselves. However, there are a vast variety of chains out there that cater to the healthier customer, you just might not know it! Whether you’re on the move or going out for a meal, the following franchises are great so read on for these 6 Top Places to Eat Clean when Eating Out!

1. Zizzi
This is one of my go-to restaurants if I’m looking to keep my diet intact. Italian restaurants have a bit of a stigma attached to them, that’s no wonder considering their menus seem to be filled with pizzas and pastas that contain copious amounts of calories. However, if one was to look through Zizzi’s menu they offer extremely viable alternatives. Their meat and fish section is extremely clean, and to die for! High in protein, these dishes are either served with herby potatoes and green beans, or they have the option of a winter slaw and tomato salad to guarantee your meal will be less than 600 calories. Their skinny pizza range is also worth a look, as they offer a similar calorie boundary. Other dietary types are considered at Zizzi also, offering a vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free menu, they truly do care for feeding everyone well

2. Pret a Manger
Pret has made a name for itself for producing fresh salads and baguettes, made with all natural ingredients and the highest feasible levels of animal welfare, environmental stewardship and ethical farming. However, breakfast time is where Pret a Manger’s menu really excels. They boast a large selection, from egg and avocado baguettes, breakfast muffins and power pots to coconut porridge, muesli, granola and berry bowls, the choice is out of this world (I thought I’d better not mention the pastry selection). If you’re looking for a hearty, healthy breakfast, or a quick lunch to take away, this place is a strong contender.

3. Nandos
You knew this would be on the list here somewhere, I’ll bet. The bodybuilder’s staple, go-to restaurant for flexible, high-protein food. The option to build your own meal is a real bonus for any customer at Nandos, using chicken as the core from which to add your sides. You can really keep track of what you’re eating, especially with the Nandos app which allows you to count the calories and see the macro content! Boasting various salads with tastes from around the globe too, eating clean is not a problem here. Their animal welfare has often been put into question, but they insist that all their chicken is UK sourced and Red Tractor assured, meaning its met good standards of food safety, animal welfare and environmental protection.

4. Pho
Mainly located in big cities, Pho (pronounced ‘fuh’) is the Vietnamese national dish, consisting of a rice noodle soup, upon which the customer has a large choice of variations. From chicken to steak and prawns to meatballs, this dish can become a nutritious, protein-rich meal which you can enjoy in or get to go! As well as being low in both fat and unsaturated fat, their pho soups are a source of 10 vitamins and minerals, including those that aid in the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. A perfect pick me up lunch, then!

5. CAU
Cuisine from Buenos Aires, inspired by countries such as Italy, Spain and Argentina, the range on CAU’s menu is staggering. If you’re willing to resist the mouthwatering burgers and sandwiches they have to offer, their alternatives will certainly leave you feeling satisfied without feeling guilty. Their coal baked bream and chicken parmigiana are two personal favourites of mine, containing flavours that’ll take you straight to the heart of South America.

6. Itsu
Every single calorie at Itsu is documented under each and every item of food and you’ll be pleased to know they are all refreshingly low, even in saturated fats. They aim to use good quality, beneficial ingredients in all of their dishes, as a matter of fact, they list them alphabetically on their website along with their purpose! As the Japanese word ‘itsu’ more or less means ‘whenever’, their food is available to eat in, take away or simply save for later; they believe that eating should never be restricted. Also, because they use fresh ingredients every day, they sell their food at half-price toward the end of their closing hours, an ideal time for buying a cheap, hassle-free dinner!

Eating clean when eating out is no longer a major challenge or a rarity, the list above is just a handful of restaurants concerned with the needs of the conscious eater which exist to make your life stress-free.
