5 Great Things About Having a Gym Buddy!

For this New Year did you make a resolution to lose more weight or get more fit? Well, you’re not the only one. Gyms become crowded during this time of year with ‘resolution seekers’ and we’ve all be there! However, about 20 percent of these new gym rats fail by the end of February. So, how can you avoid failure at the gym? One answer is the subject of this article, so we’re going to look at 5 Great Things About Having a Gym Buddy!

1. They motivate you
We all know how hard it can be to go to the gym. Every time we even think about the idea, we push it out of our mind and say we’ll do it tomorrow. However, with a gym buddy, there is no putting it off until tomorrow. You’re more likely to meet your friend for a planned workout session at six in the morning than you are to commit to a tentative plan you made for yourself. According to Stanford University, simply receiving a phone call from a friend about your workout can boost the amount of exercise you do by 78 percent!

2. They help keep you safe
With a gym buddy, you’ll never have to ask a random stranger to spot you again. Now you not only have a motivator, but also a full-time spotter. Your buddy can help you get the last one or two reps in without dropping the weight on you! This will ultimately keep your workout safe and increase the number of reps you’re able to tackle properly. A buddy is also great for running and travelling in a pack is always safer than running alone.

3. They make working-out fun!
Running on a treadmill or climbing the endless stepladder can be quite lonely not to mention boring. However, with a buddy you can switch up the exercises for a competitive element or play some one-on-one soccer or bounce around the basketball. The more diversity that you add to your routine the more likely you’ll stick to an exercise regimen. It will also activate different muscles and ensure that you’re getting a fuller-body workout.

4. They feel your pain
One reason to get a workout buddy is because you have someone to share the pain with. After a workout you’ll sometimes feel sore and probably won’t want to go paintballing or be in the mood for a raging concert with your usual friends. However, your workout partner will also feel the same and you’ll be able to find other things to do on your off time. This will not only make total sense, it’ll also motivate you to keep going back to the gym.

5. They’re cheaper than a personal trainer!
Not only will your buddy be there for you when everyone else wants to go out, but they will also become your full-time personal trainer. You and your buddy can watch what you eat outside of the gym and ensure that your workouts are worth the time, energy and (in effect) life investment. This provides a win-win motivator both in and out of the gym supporting you to reach the fitness goals you’ve always dreamed of.
