3 Easy Ways to Keep Motivated to Workout this Winter!

Once the weather starts to cool and the snow begins to fall, people instinctively head indoors to seek warmth, and some choose to live a sedentary lifestyle all winter long. As 50% of British adults fail to do any exercise at all, it’s likely that the level of inactivity in the country will rise even higher this winter as it can prove challenging to exercise in cold weather. However, exercising is a crucial part being at your physical best and living, and it’s been suggested that working out in winter may even be better for you. Fortunately, there are several things that you can do to stay motivated to exercise this winter, so dress warmly, stock your home with your favourite winter training foods, and follow these 3 easy ways to keep motivated to workout this winter!

1. Try a new workout
Trying a new workout and diet program can motivate you to exercise when it’s cold and dark outside. Try sampling a new dance-based exercise class or go to that hot yoga class that you always wanted to try. Having something new to look forward to every day keeps you motivated to take care of your health even in the worst weather. Moreover, it also makes you fitter as you’ll be exercising in a way that challenges your body.

2. Invest in new activewear
Having new, brightly coloured activewear can give you a psychological edge and help you look forward to working out on a cold morning. Choose gear with a thicker fabric that wicks away sweat from your skin to help you stay warm. Layer your sportswear to keep warm while exercising outdoors, and remember to wear thin layers so you can stay warm and dry without looking like the Michelin man while exercising outdoors!

3. Make a new workout playlist
Having new tunes to listen to while you’re in the gym can help you stay motivated to keep fit this winter. Make a new workout playlist to get you moving, keeping you inspired to exercise. Whether it’s new hip-hop, rock, pop, EDM, or 80’s or 90’s dance anthems, upbeat music can help you keep your movements consistent during workouts, so download your favourite tracks to your phone, iPod or MP3 player and get moving.

If the weather makes it utterly impossible to go outside, you can still keep fit while you’re staying at home. Follow along to a YouTube exercise video or workout DVD, or do some resistance training such as bodyweight exercises or weight lifting using common household items. There’s always a way to workout no matter what the weather’s like, so follow these tips to stay motivated to exercise this season for a healthier and fitter you and beat those winter blues!
