RÖWO: Sports Therapy

Staying healthy for your sport or gym training is of fundamental importance if you want to be the best you can be. Hot and cold therapies are useful methods of preventing aches and pains and minimising injury risks in your training programme. In this review, we look at three RÖWO sports therapy products from Ravensford to help keep you in action. These are the Hotspot® muscle rub, Snowdrop® cooling gel and the Chamoix® skin protection cream.

RÖWO professional therapy products are developed in Germany by sports therapy specialists who are well experienced in the physiotherapy and health fields. They are knowledgeable, well established and their ROWO products are popular amongst physiotherapists. Ravensford (www.ravensford.co.uk) is the exclusive distributor for Hotspot®, Snowdrop® and Chamoix® in the UK and Ireland.

As a lifetime muscle and strength enthusiast, I regularly use heat rubs and freeze gels. I was very enthusiastic to see how useful the RÖWO products would be during and after some of my heavy training sessions.

Ingredients/active properties:

Hotspot: Contains Devil’s Claw, clove oil and capsicum.

Snowdrop: Contains Arnica to reduce bruising and swelling and Witch Hazel for healing.

Chamoix: Contains Deer Tallow which protects and nourishes your skin, also contains Vitamin E, D-Panthenol and beeswax.

Consistency/Texture and Fragrance:

Hotspot:
It doesn’t have the typical overwhelming smell of heat rubs and its aroma is actually pleasant and botanical. Its gel consistency lets it glide smoothly over the skin and makes it easy to massage into the targeted muscle. Its unique orange colour is something which sets it apart from other heat rubs too.

Snowdrop: It has a similar consistency to Hotspot and it’s very easy to apply to the desired muscles as it is smooth and can be easily applied to the skin. There is no sticky or greasiness after it is applied and the product has a nice, invigorating aroma from the mint and menthol.

Chamoix:  This skin protection cream has a thicker consistency than the other two products. It has a pleasing pale green appearance and a slightly waxy/soapy scent. All the products are paraben-free and dermatologically tested.

Performance:

The Hotspot’s effectiveness is first class. It’s excellent during gym sessions, creating a beautiful warmth in the muscles and helping to increase confidence. It only takes a modest application to feel it work and it heats up ultrafast. You can feel its effect well after your workout has ended and applying it to sore muscles the day after training proves to be very beneficial too. The manufacturers describe the heat rub as “intense” and this word sums it up perfectly.

The Snowdrop cooling rub was satisfying to use and it takes effect fairly fast. The skin is left feeling a lovely cool sensation soon after applying it. It is quite mild so you can be quite liberal when applying it. The Snowdrop roll-on was particularly nice to use, it was good to massage the muscle fibres while simultaneously feeling them cool down. It felt ideal to use after demanding weight training sessions and I’m confident it can contribute to reducing inflammation. I used it daily on my aching left shoulder and felt a significant reduction in the amount of pain.

The Chamoix cream is recommended for endurance athletes for protection against chafing, sores and blisters. As a strength athlete, I tried it on my hands to see what results I would get. It really softened the tough calluses on my hands which have been there from regularly lifting weights and training to build grip strength. A tiny pea-sized amount is all it takes for good coverage. It was nice to get a compliment from my wife about how soft my hands felt after using this.

Value:
The RÖWO products are fairly priced. The Hotspot and Snowdrop gels are available in different package sizes whereas Chamoix comes in 5ml sachets only. A box of 25 sachets (for any of the products) costs £19.99. The sachets can also be purchased individually which gives you the option to try one before purchasing bigger sizes. The Hotspot 200ml tub costs £14.99 and the 1000ml practitioner pump pack costs £79.99. The Snowdrop 1000ml practitioner pump pack costs £39.98 and the nicely sized 50ml roll-on is certainly worth trying at a very reasonable £6.99.

Summary:
The RÖWO products are fantastic to use. People from all walks of life can benefit from these gels and creams to help deal with aches, sprains, strains and soreness. Conditions like arthritis and tendonitis could benefit from the use of these products as well. There has been positive feedback from people using Hotspot to help with their Fibromyalgia and from people using Snowdrop for Restless Legs Syndrome. Hotspot has become a favourite of mine and I’m sure I’ll be purchasing many more tubs of it, gift some to your sporty friends -they’ll really thank you for it!
