Bodybuilding Legends – Cory Everson

This stunning, world-class, American bodybuilder is the only undefeated (6 time) Ms Olympia competitor in female bodybuilding history. Often called the female Arnold Schwarzenegger, Everson is one of the most popular and likeable elite competitors in bodybuilding and the first such female to feature on Keep Fit Kingdom, let’s find out more about this phenom in our Bodybuilding Legends – Cory Everson!

Cory came from a very sporty background and already had the strong mindset and physical capabilities for bodybuilding. Her experiences in demanding sports like gymnastics and pentathlon would help her keep fit and prepare her well.

Everson’s first bodybuilding competition was in 1980 and she achieved first place in it. She continued to compete each year in the eighties and this decade was a time of huge success for her. She won her first prestigious Ms Olympia title in 1984 and won the title for the following five years. Cory was influenced by top female and male bodybuilders such as Rachel McLish, Gladys Portugues, and Rich Gaspari.

All bodybuilding champions know the value of big compound lifts in the gym and Cory was no exception. She placed lots of emphasis on proven mass builders such as squats, leg presses, bench presses and bent over rows in her training routines. She occasionally used techniques like negatives and partials to increase intensity. High rep work was favoured for abs and she enjoyed using giant sets (4 or 5 exercises performed back to back) for these. Jeff Everson, Cory’s first bodybuilding coach, stated that her training routines were long and hard.

Cory Everson was a skilful poser and her creative routines fully displayed her fantastic physique. Her energetic posing style showed off her muscular biceps, strong thighs and her tiny 24 inch waist. The fans’ reactions were always enthusiastic!

As well as earning top bodybuilding titles throughout her career, Cory attained other high profile awards. These included being an IFBB Hall of Fame inductee in 1999 and a 2012 International Sports Hall of Fame inductee. She is presently one of only two women (out of 17 people in total) to be an Arnold Classic Lifetime Achievement Award winner.

The investment in goals, determination and discipline gained from the bodybuilding lifestyle can often bring success in other areas of life. Like all our previous legends in this series, Everson found success in writing and acting. She wrote several fitness books and had acting roles in hit films “Natural Born Killers” and “Double Impact” (which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme).

Cory Everson set some great standards in women’s bodybuilding. Her beautiful looks, flawless presentation and persistent resolve make her a fantastic role model for all bodybuilders past, present and no doubt, future. What do you think of Cory Everson’s physique? Does it reflect the ideal combination of athletic, female aesthetics and dazzling proportions?
