5 Great Ways to Get Fit on a Budget!

Want to get fit but don’t have the money to spend on an expensive monthly gym membership? Well don’t panic, because we’ve got 5 Great Ways to Get Fit on a Budget, fantastic low-cost methods of keeping fit that won’t burn a hole in your pocket!

1. Home workouts
With just your own body weight –  if you want to spend absolutely nothing on your working-out, this is the perfect option for you. All you need is some space inside your house or outside and some willpower! There is an endless number of exercises you can do without any equipment, such as lunges, star jumps, planks, crunches, squats and you can even get creative and use your furniture!.

With dumbbells – If you’re willing to make a small investment, this option is a lot cheaper than a gym membership in the long-run. You can get a decent set of dumbbells for as little as £20! Using weights can make workouts a bit more interesting and there are many benefits of strength training that we’ve brought you in a previous article.

2. Take it outside!
The great thing about exercising outdoors is that nobody can charge you for it! Whether you choose a park or your own neighbourhood, it is a public space that you can use to your heart’s content! There are many different ways to exercise outdoors for free such as walking, jogging and running. Another outdoor activity is cycling which is free if you already own a bike, but if you can afford to buy one, it is a worthwhile purchase that is worth the money in the long-run.  Imagine getting fit whilst doing local errands, shopping, meeting family or friends saving time and avoiding traffic into the bargain!

3. Get fit with your dog
One of my favourite ways to exercise is to walk my dog daily. It’s always nice to have a companion when exercising, and makes it feel more like a leisure activity than exercise! If you have a relatively young and fit dog you can even try running with them. Getting into the habit of walking your dog for even 20 minutes each evening is a great low-impact way to shape-up.

4. Workout videos
It’s raining you say? Well have no fear, we have a solution for that too. Bad weather is no excuse to skip your daily workout. There are hundreds of results that pop-up if you type “workout videos” into YouTube, from dance workouts to circuits, we promise you will be spoilt for choice. If you have the space in your living room and a DVD player/PC there are many fitness DVD’s you can purchase by celebrity trainers who are sure to get you motivated!

5. Smarter everyday decisions
Take the stairs instead of the lift; walk or cycle to work if possible; park -10 minutes away from work and walk; get off the bus a stop early and walk the rest; go for a walk on your lunch break; don’t spend too much time sitting, stand up and stretch every hour, give your eyes a break from your phone or PC! Sometimes you may not have much time to devote to exercise specifically, or after a long day at work it may be the last thing on your mind. Although we wouldn’t encourage this mindset all the time, if it does creep-up once in a while, at least some of the above healthy habits could save you from feeling too guilty if you do skip a work-out.

So there you have it, 5 very practical ways to get fit on a zero to minimum budget. What kind of things work for you? Let us know@keepfitkingdom !
