5 Great Exercises Named after Bodybuilders

New stimulus is essential when you’re trying to pack some muscle onto your frame. Adding new and different exercises to your training program helps to produce fresh gains. Want to add a little spice to your workouts? Then try these 5 Great Exercises Named after Bodybuilders!

1. Hyght Flyes
The chest has got to be the most popular muscle to train in the thousands of gyms around the world, so bodybuilding fans will be glad to see this on our list. This awesome flye variation by bodybuilder and coach Dr Clay Hyght effectually targets your upper pecs and you’re guaranteed to be sore after training these. Even 10kg dumbells will feel tough in this challenging upper chest exercise.

2. Meadows’ Row
Here’s a lesser known row to blast your lats to new widths! Named after successful American bodybuilder John Meadows, this row can add more thickness to your upper back. It can be performed using a T-bar row machine or a landmine device. It’s definitely a worthwhile addition to your routine and a nice change from doing the usual seated row exercises that feature in so many gym enthusiasts’ routines.

3. Haney Shrugs
Lee Haney dominated the Mr. Olympia competition for most of the 1980’s. One of his favourite upper body exercises was the behind the back shrug and this lift is often associated him. With traps and back development like Haney’s, it’s hard to argue that this exercise doesn’t work. Add it into your back or shoulder workout to get those dormant traps of yours growing again.

4. Scott Curls
It’s likely that most gym-goers will recognise the preacher curl exercise but not all will know that it’s also referred to as the Scott Curl. The first ever Mr. Olympia Larry Scott, of course, played a large part in making this exercise popular. He had one of the best pairs of arms in bodybuilding history. Straight bars, EZ curl bars and dumbbells all work well in this classic curl variation. For something different, try it with an overhand grip to fry your forearms!

5. Gironda Dumbbell Swings
Vince Gironda had one of the most knowledgeable minds in bodybuilding and had some unique methods in his training repertoire. His ‘dumbbell swings’ exercise seem a slightly unorthodox way to do lateral raises but when you try them you’ll realise just how effective they are. Gironda also happened to coach the aforementioned Larry Scott.

Okay, we may have said we were going to show you 5 exercises, but we couldn’t resist treating you to a couple more. When you have a spare moment, see if you can find out about McLish Leg Curls, named after the first Ms. Olympia, Rachel McLish, and the Reeves Deadlift, named after the legendary Steve Reeves.
